The purpose of this guide is to highlight strategies that programs and mentors of young men of color (YMOC) can use to support their development, social identity, and gender expression. It includes highlights of key research, suggestions for activities (individual and group reflection questions), and a wealth of additional resources (documentaries, readings, and websites) where practitioners can learn more. The recommendations could be implemented in one-to-one, group, or peer mentoring models and used by formal or informal mentors alike. Though this guide was developed with particular attention to support YMOC ages 14-18, it can be used to support conversations between mentors and youth of all backgrounds.
